The team developed pre-feasibility studies for the Tiete Arc area from April 2013, according to the public expression of interest, proposed by the Municipal Department of Urban Development (SMDU), City of São Paulo. The Tiete Arc occupies a strategic area, Tiete River, its margins as a structuring axis delimited, on the west side, by the Anhanguera and Bandeirantes Highways and by the Presidente Dutra Highway. Logistics and industrial uses are predominant in the area. However, according to SEADE data, these activities are gradually being replaced by the tertiary sector. There is a need for housing production to meet the demands of different income ranges, especially the vulnerable communities, which initially occupied the floodplains of Tietê and its tributaries, with the Tamanduateí River being one of the most significant. The Tietê Arch area comprises 16 distinct neighborhoods, each with specific potentialities and conflicts, interesting urban elements expressing its plurality. Team vision: rescue the symbolic, economic, and ecological character of the Tietê River so that it becomes the axis of equitable development of the Tietê Arc and Arc of the Future area, through the establishment of a new paradigm of design and land use, centered on integration with environmental, economic and social planning. The four principles of the proposal are: • Implement the compact city model with the integration of the high and medium capacity transport network and the creation of new centralities around its stations with housing and job creation poles; • Create a green belt composed of a series of public spaces with ecological function, green infrastructure, educational and recreational in the articulation of the 16 neighborhoods that are part of the Tietê Arc; • Make São Paulo an example of environmental awareness in sustainability, water conservation, and historic preservation. • Adapt the scale of the city for the pedestrian and create diversified land use, to qualify and revitalize connections; • Reinforce the identity of São Paulo as a cultural and economic center.Client: City of São Paulo - Municipal Department of Urban Development
