Memories and reflections in contemporary landscape design Project awarded in 2012, the concept of the landscape and architecture for the Paranoá Park is based on the preservation of historical, cultural, and environmental values of the site. The landscape design is guided by the integration with the architecture of the new buildings and the local landscape. The architectural project was premised on the implementation of buildings oriented on the north-south axis, better solar orientation, and which values the east-west views to the Paranoá lake and the São Bartolomeu river valley. The main building are designed to house administrative, cultural, restaurant, and public restrooms in a single block in the area determined in the project as the park's central area. In the habitat and sports areas, the buildings are designed in modular concrete structure coated with a wooden brise for thermal comfort with openings in the east-west direction. These sheds have the same typology and differ only in the internal layout, according to the program of each area to be implemented. They are designed suspended from the ground with access by a ramp. Viewpoints strategically placed along the main paths frame the existing views and at the same time create rest spaces protected by a wooden pergola. The design of the topography has been carefully studied to maximize the experience of park users either in contemplation of the macro landscape overlooking Lake Paranoá and the Bartolomeu Valley as well as in the creation of unusual views from the newly designed paths. Highlights of the jury meeting minutes: • Interesting circulation system with the presence of attractions along the paths; • Consistent analysis concerning visuals, drainage, and uses; • The original design of the compact main building; • Well-structured solution for the water features.
