The neighborhood of Jardim São Luís in the outskirts of São Paulo, Brazil, with a population of approximately 26.000 inhabitants, is one of the most populated communities in the city (population density 95.94 hab/ha), low income with 46.905 people living in slums and high occurrence of violent crimes in São Paulo. More than half of its population (133.978 people) has incomplete early education. The area has also suffered over the years with deforestation and the increase of informal settlement occupying hills, unplanned construction, and lack of infrastructure and sanitation, resulting in flash floods, landslides, piles of garbage on the streets. The goal was to protect the youth under social vulnerability, ensuring empowerment and social inclusion, motivating participation, equity through education and visioning, and expanding the cultural repertoire. The collaborative space will bring several technologies and knowledge share with the community to empower and transform the local reality. Proposed design for the UN-Habitat grant: (1)Culinary Pavilion; (2) a Minecraft playground space(required by RFP); and (3) an outdoor Mini auditorium. Phase 2 will require additional funding to implement: (1) a Music studio for local artists; (2) Multimedia room; (3) Collaborative workspace; and (4) Greenroom, an educational space for sustainability and permaculture practices.
