Project for the Olympic Park Competition - group of 15 finalists Olympic Park: a place, a living destination of effervescent ambiance, a new centrality for Barra da Tijuca. Our principles: • Creating a vibrant destination for the 2016 Olympic Games and future generations • Establishing a flexible structure for the development and the environment • Integration of ecology and infrastructure as a regenerative system • Capture the Spirit of Global Success and Celebration Games and Legacy mode. The Olympic Park area features a lush natural landscape. The site located on the edge of the Jacarepaguá Lagoon is surrounded by mountains and water has inspired the concept of the Park and its design that appropriated these elements and translated them into the built landscape. The General Plan, both for the Games Mode and the Legacy Mode, aimed to make the most of the potential that the area offers to the public, for the development of spaces for sport, environmental education, and socio-cultural interaction. The resulting transformation after the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the implementation of the proposed infrastructure for its urban development will influence future actions in the area and its neighborhood, to create a different model of growth for the city. The use of the existing landscape potential, the preservation of local flora and fauna, and the restoration of important natural resources guided the process of designing all spaces for the park, where the presence of the public will be the main element for vitality necessary for conservation and maintenance. The views added to the consolidated fragments of native forest and mangrove were determinants for the better positioning and implementation of the park's facilities. The circulation system was carefully studied to articulate spaces and functions, and at the same time ensure accessibility and safety, according to the guidelines of the Olympic Committee. The natural profile of the existing terrain has become the general plane proposed in an undulating landscape that reproduces water movement and the smooth rhythm of Bossa Nova and the vibration of Samba. As a result, higher points have been designed, which increased visibility to the rest of the terrain. Allies to this concept were designed lookouts and seating areas for contemplation. The observation tower located on the east side of the site, on Avenida Abelardo Bueno, was intended to be a landmark in the landscape and will serve as a reference point. The general plan integrates architecture and natural landscape with a contemporary language not only in the design but also in the use of new materials and technologies.
