"In the mid-1960s, businessman Carlos Chiti - Co-founder of Romi Industries - intended to have something bigger in the state capital. The company already had a branch in Downtown on Brigadeiro Tobias Street. The neighborhood chosen to host the company's office was Lapa. Chiti invited the architects Lúcio Grinover and Hélio Duarte, two of the most renowned professionals in the field. The Romi building – a modern-style construction with seven floors – was designed and approved in 1964 and its construction began in 1965. The opening of the Romi building took place in 1966 and is currently considered a historical heritage of the city for its layout of modernist architecture.
